E.V.’s Ready to Potty!

Didn’t get a chance to post this yesterday when it happened, but I think E.V. is ready to be potty trained!

Yesterday I was sitting in my recliner reading emails on my phone when I felt a tentative tug on my pants.  I look down and there’s E.V looking like she did something wrong.

‘Yes, E.V.?’

‘Poppy, poop.’

‘E.V. is there poop in your butt?’

‘No’ and then she signs potty.

‘Do you need to go to the potty?’

‘Yes, please.’

So I get up and grab her and take her to the bathroom while pulling off her pants and diaper.  I plop her down on the toilet and we both stare at each other.  Then E.V. makes her little go away hand gesture and says, ‘Bye, bye.’

So I step to where she can’t see me but I can still see her little feet so she has privacy.  I wait and she starts singing her version of the ABC song, mostly A’s and B’s.  Then she stops singing and I hear a little grunt and a big splash, followed by toilet paper being unrolled.

I rush back into the bathroom as she finishing wiping herself.  E.V. then says and signs ‘All done!’ and holds out her hands for me to help her down.  When she gets to the floor she turns around and flushes the potty and waves to the poop as it goes away, ‘Bye Poop!’

I pick her up and take her to put on a new diaper.  With bottom safely covered I put her on the floor and start to walk off when E.V. stops me…

‘Poppy,’ she says with a tone that lets me know I did something wrong.

I turn to her, ‘Yes E.V.?’

She raises both hands and waggles them at me, ‘Wash Hands!’

I had been so excited by the whole ordeal, that I completely forgot about the most important part!  So we both went back into the bathroom and washed our hands.

E.V. is only 20 months old, and though she’s been on a potty before (when she was like 8-9 months old) we haven’t been trying to potty train her since she lost interest when she started walking at around 12 months.  All we really do is watch a potty time video every once in a while.  The video walks through stopping and listening to your body, asking a parent to take you to the potty, going potty, wiping up, flushing and washing hands.  E.V. followed the steps exactly, even when I forgot one!

The Signing Time video ‘Potty Time’ is worth is weight in gold!  Here’s a link on Amazon if you want to check out the reviews!

Quick Note:  The recommendation in this post is 100% merit based, I didn’t receive the product for free in return for a review.  Also, the link above is an Amazon partner link and I do get a small fee if you purchase after following the link, but I don’t have random ads on HomePoppy.com, you’ll only find links to products I have tried and recommend!
